Scott Sublett (playwright and lyricist) teaches screen writing and film history at San Jose State University. As a journalist he has written for the Washington Times and The San Francisco Chronicle. He possesses an M.F.A. in screen writing from UCLA and is the author of eight screenplays. Die, Die, Diana is his first musical comedy.
Jef Labes (composer and musical director) has been involved in the music industry since 1967. His accomplishments are known world wide, including two Gold Records, one for keyboards and arranging on Van Morrison's classic Moondance, the other for Bonnie Raitt's Sweet Forgiveness. He has done musical arrangements for NBC's Saturday Night Live and composed numerous stage productions, including Obie-winner Bigfoot. Mr. Labes has written several musicals, including Tik Tok of Oz, a children's musical currently in rehearsal at the Marin Playhouse, and The Odyssey, which has been optioned by a motion picture producer.
Danny Scheie (director) recently won the Bay Area Critic's Circle Best Actor Award for his performance in The Last Hairdresser at Theatre Rhinoceros, He was also nominated as Best Director for the same show. Other shows Danny has directed in San Francisco include Up Jumped Springtime, The Stand-in, The Desk Set (Cable Car Nomination), and Twelfth Night. In June, his one-man show Dr. Scheie's Traffic School, played to sold-out houses at Josie's Juice Joint in the Castro.
Mr. Scheie was assistant director for Die Meistersinger von Nurnbreg at The Metropolitan Opera in New York. He spent ten seasons at the Shakespeare Santa Cruz before his abdication as Artistic Director, directing such classics as The Tempest (Dramalogue Award), Merchant of Venice, and A Midsummer Nights Dream. He holds a Ph.D. from University of California, Berkley in Dramatic Art and is currently on the faculty of the Board of Studies in Theatre Arts at University of California, Santa Cruz.
